Immunometabolism Pioneer and Aging Research Leader, Dr. Daniel Winer, Joins Unleash Health’s Scientific Council
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Daniel Winer to the Unleash Health Scientific Council, further strengthening our mission to deliver real science to everyday lives.
Dr. Winer is globally recognized as a trailblazer in the emerging fields of immunometabolism, mechanoimmunology, and astroimmunology. His work is defining how the immune system within tissues like fat, liver, and gut orchestrates the progression of aging and metabolic disease.
Currently an Associate Professor at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, Dr. Winer holds cross-appointments at the University of Southern California School of Gerontology, the University of Toronto Departments of Immunology and Laboratory Medicine, the Toronto General Research Institute, and the Dominican University of California.
His career has been defined by both scientific excellence and bold thinking. Dr. Winer’s research in immunometabolism was part of a top 10 breakthrough of the decade by Cell Metabolism and has garnered prestigious accolades including the Benjamin Castleman Award for human pathology research and the Amgen Early Investigator Award for excellence in endocrinology. He was also named the inaugural Canada Research Chair in Immunometabolism, and recognized for teaching excellence at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Winer has contributed to major space and longevity research initiatives, and was a member of NASA’s 4th class on Spaceflight Technologies and Biosciences. He’s co-founder and Chairman of Propion Inc, exploring how gut microbiome metabolites drive chronic disease, and co-founder of Cosmica Biosciences, focused on space medicine simulations. His work has been published in the world’s leading journals, including Nature, Science Immunology, Cell Metabolism, Nature Medicine, and Nature Reviews Immunology.
